Core Theme: The United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz via electronic means, which has now taken effect. U.S. President Trump personally signed the document. However, Reuters has noted that Israel remains the biggest variable in sustaining the de-escalation in the Middle East over the next several years. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has insisted that strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon are not constrained by the U.S.-Iran agreement, while Iran has demanded a ceasefire in Lebanon as well. With respect to the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Central Command has issued an update.
