Li Chenggang: China and the U.S. Reach Preliminary Consensus on Multiple Issues Including Tariffs

    On October 25-26 local time, China and the United States held economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

    Li Chenggang, China's Vice Minister of Commerce and International Trade Negotiator, stated on the 26th that the economic and trade teams of both countries engaged in in-depth and candid discussions and exchanges on economic and trade issues of mutual concern.

    Li Chenggang noted that the discussions covered numerous topics, including export control issues of mutual concern, extending the suspension period for reciprocal tariffs, fentanyl tariffs and fentanyl anti-drug cooperation, further expanding trade, and U.S. Section 301 vessel fee-related measures. Both sides engaged in constructive discussions on these matters. The U.S. side expressed a firm stance, while China remained resolute in safeguarding its interests. After more than a day of intensive discussions, both sides constructively explored appropriate solutions to address their respective concerns on the aforementioned issues and reached preliminary consensus. The next step involves completing internal approval procedures.
