MOFCOM Spokesperson Responds to EU Commission Discussion on China Relations

Q: On May 29, the European Commission held a plenary meeting to discuss its relations with China. What is China's Ministry of Commerce's response?

A: China has taken note of the EU's discussion on its relationship with China. China and the EU are important trade and economic partners based on equality and mutual benefit. We hope the EU side will abide by WTO rules, uphold free trade and fair competition, and firmly oppose protectionism and unilateralism.

Channels of communication between China and the EU remain open. Both sides are exploring the establishment of a trade and investment consultation mechanism and will conduct related dialogues. We hope the EU will work with China in the same direction, jointly implement the consensus reached by both sides' leaders, properly manage differences and frictions through dialogue and consultation, and promote the stable and healthy development of China-EU trade and economic relations.

If the EU insists on unilaterally introducing new trade tools and adopting discriminatory restrictions, China will resolutely respond and take effective measures to safeguard its own interests.
